I write happily from bed, listening to some reggae, and with a cup of tea in hand. Usually I shoot out of bed as soon as I can and are off to move my body in some sort of way, but with a bit of a tweaked hip I decided to stay in and give it a rest before heading to work...and I have to say, being a bit of a couch potato is kind of nice?! :-)
So I thought I might take this time and share some useful information with you about how to heal certain ailments through food...all very important! :-)

Clear skin~ Fruits and Veggies!
Particularly avocados, dark leaf greens, carrots, beets, and all berries. They are full of Vitamin C, E, flavonoids, and antioxidants. Flavonoids, similar to vitamins, are what gives a lot of our foods color, they help to rid the body of toxins. They are similar to antioxidants as well, in that they help to fight free radicals in the body.
* always make sure to be properly hydrated. When we are hydrated internally it shows through on our skin and we glow!
* when washing my face I rarely use my hands. Even with washed hands we still have oil and dirt remaining. Use a soft washcloth and gently rub around face with cleanser. I have a small hand tool that spins as I run it around my face, that lightly exfoliates as I wash.

Constipation~ Fiber!
Make note that not all fibers are the same....
Soluble fibers attract water, which slows digestion. Soluble fiber slows down the emptying of your stomach, which makes you feel full (helps control weight). This will not help with constipation...
Insoluble fibers do not dissolve in water, so they are able to pass through the gastrointestinal tract faster and add bulk to your stool. This will help with constipation!

- whole wheat, whole grains, wheat bran, seeds, nuts, barley, couscous, brown rice, zucchini, celery, broccoli, cabbage, onions, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, dark leafy vegetables, raisins, grapes, fruit, and root vegetable skins.
Brain Fog~ detoxify and control stress
I have been feeling this lately and have been trying to provide myself with a plentiful amount of antioxidants, but I think the real answer may just be a plane ticket and a tropical beach?! ;-)
A big part of brain fog are free radicals roaming around in our brain cells. Free radicals are unstable molecules that attack our healthy cells. Berries and dark greens, are full of antioxidants that help to fight against these free radials.
*avoid overly processed foods and foods full of chemicals
* buy organic when you can
*even working out too much can cause brain fog. Sore muscles and the high you get after a workout can get addictive, but make sure to give your body a rest as well.
Liver Detox
The liver is responsible for riding your body of toxins (from food and the environment) so they don't harm your other organs. When the liver is overworked and overloaded with too many toxins it can't properly detox, thus stores the excess toxins in your fat tissues.
* A lot of alcoholics end up with liver cancer because their bodies are always trying to get rid of the alcohol firstly (your body automatically detoxes alcohol and drugs first), but it never has the change to address other toxins in the body, which leads to an enormous buildup and a toxic system.
Some Symptoms of an overworked liver~
Some foods to help
Spinach~neutralizes heavy metals
onions, garlic~ contain sulfur to help detox
ginger~ a powerful antioxidant
parsley~ good for the kidneys as well, a oxygenating chlorophyll
lemon~ increases bile flow to easily remove toxins out of the body
grapefruit~ aids live in fat burning
Drink
~ warm lemon water in the morning to prepare liver for the day ahead
~milk thistle tea
~ dandelion root tea
Some thoughts~
Care for yourself simply, living healthy doesn't encompass tons of products and concoctions...it is about getting back to the basics, how are ancestors lived. Drink lots of water, get plenty of sleep, move your body, eat wholesome products, go outside, and smile.
and from time to time...turn on some music and wiggle! :-)
